Twilight Movie Video Review!

9 Nov

After three days of awkwardly filming myself and stitching the parts together in video editing software I had never used before, I present to you: my video blog review of the Twilight movie!

I’m really excited about this.

This is the first time I have ever made a video blog before or even filmed myself, so it was definitely a learning process. It seems that iMovie switched my clips into widescreen automatically, reducing the upload quality and chopping off the top of my head, but OH WELL I DON’T CARE because I spent way too long putting this thing together. I think I like vlogging, though, so I think there will be more in the future.

Also, yes, I know, I have a funky Yorkshire/Maritime accent and I need a haircut.

Give me some thumbs up on YouTube, my lovelies :)

Coming up next: a short story then chapter one of New Moon!

And… discuss! Your thoughts on the Twilight movie? There were a lot of other things I could have mentioned in my vlog, so let’s chat.

Cannot wait for New Moon review :D I feel like Robert Pattinson really had potential as an actor (er, really just basing that off of his Harry Potter performance, so I might be wrong). But he’s expressed such loathing for the series and its creator and even fangirls that I somehow doubt that he’ll ever move beyond the non-acting required for this movie. I almost feel sorry for him for signing the contract for the series before reading the books, but I can’t quite feel sorry for that level of stupid.

And 6 month production time? WTF? That’s like…Blair Witch Project editing time! I wasn’t able to sit through the first movie. Or the second. But the second one might be because it had Hungarian subtitles that I couldn’t turn off. I think I technically sat through it once (I’ve tried to watch it more than once…) when I was shit-faced drunk, but I can’t actually remember and I think I passed out 3/4 of the way through. Go me!

SIX WEEKS, Arallyn! WEEKS!!! The filming and editing and everything for this movie didn’t even take two months. Talk about cashing in. They honestly didn’t even try. And yet it even got 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. There is no justice in the world. I liked Blair Witch Project way better, too. It had charm. It knew it was low-budget and thrown-together and bad. Twilight has no self-awareness at all (Well, apart from RPat).

Dude, Hungarian subtitles would make this so much better. I would finally know how to say “dazzle” in Hungarian.

I feel bad for RP, too. He was in a lead role in some film that came out a little while ago, so I might watch that to see if he is just a bad actor or if it’s Twilight’s fault. I want to do the same for Kristen Stewart, too, because I refuse to believe that anyone who put on a performance as awful as in that hospital scene should be awarded with millions of dollars while I sit here eating spaghetti for the twentieth night in a row. RPat said in an interview that he auditioned for Twilight because he liked Stewart’s performance in “Into the Wild” so I will watch that and then judge.

      Long comment is long.
I am happy you liked my vlog though, I feel so nervous/self-conscious about it!!

You’re gorgeous, and I loved the vlog! I agree with the point about the emotional running away scene falling flat. I think they were going for a sense of panicked urgency that just came across as part of a poorly explained, bumbling exit.

God, I can’t stand her stammer.

    • Amy-jean November 9, 2010 at 5:22 pm #

Awe, you are making me blush c:

I am so, so angry about the running away scene. For a lot of reasons. Charlie is one of the only characters I care about in the book, so I thought that would be the one place I would actually feel something in the movie. And I’m an actress myself, and a director, and I have done so many “teen angst storming out scenes” that have brought my directors to tears, so why can’t Stewart deliver if I can? I want the people I see in movies to be better than me.

Her stammer and stupid mouth kill me. Why IS her mouth always hanging open like that?

      • arallyn November 9, 2010 at 5:32 pm #

You fail to remember that four years ago she got into a tragic accident involving a cod fish and a barrel of radioactive medical waste. Please, have some sympathy for the poor girl! The movie producers clearly have the furthering of deformed and disabled Americans in mind!

I thought you would like the movie better than the book but maybe not…I think Rob Pattinson is a great actor…you must see him in “Remember Me”. Kristen Stewart has been acting since she was a child…she was Jodie Foster’s daughter in the movie “Panic Room”. I hope you enjoy New Moon. I think it has a lot more to offer than Twilight. Happy viewing! :)

    • Amy-jean November 9, 2010 at 7:07 pm #

I know there is more Jacob in New Moon, and so far I like him. I really hope Smeyer keeps him awesome.

What! Stewart was really in Panic Room? I remember liking everything about Panic Room. She seemed like a normal human being in interviews, if very uncomfortable and awkward, and I’m going to watch “Into the Wild” to see if her acting is any better in that, but I have nothing good to say at all about her performance in Twilight. It was abysmal. The ten-year-olds that I teach and direct would have done a better job. Anyway, theatre has been my life since I was a child, and I’m not making millions of dollars ;)

I don’t know if I liked the movie better or worse… I guess the movie was better than the book, but I was still super bored through the movie. Bella’s friends were actual people, and I adored Charlie even more, and RPat did the best he could do with a role that involved so little acting. The movie has less of the awful themes in the book that bother me, but they are still there, and perpetuating the teen angst, “my life is so hard and no one understands me” thing is kind of lame, too.

Anyway! Long comment is long, again. I think Remember Me is the movie I was thinking of, so I will definitely watch that and let you know what I think! Thanks :)

Kristen Stewart played Jodie Foster’s daughter who needed insulin or would go into shock in Panic Room. You should like New Moon a lot more since Taylor Lautner has a major role in it. I love the books and the movies but it’s interesting to read your perspective on the book and how we all see things differently. BTW has Meyer’s published Midnight Sun? Thanks so much for a great blog/vlog. :)

        • Amy-jean November 10, 2010 at 11:34 am #

Nope, Meyer hasn’t published Midnight Sun yet. As far as I know, she stopped writing it since she was all hurt about it leaking on the internet. You can download what there is of it off her website. I think it ends at chapter 12.

I can see her writing it again in the future, though. She knows she can make a lot of money off of it.

    You’re awesome Amy-Jean!
Yeah the Twilight movie was absolutely terrible. I knew it was going to be so I laughed through the entire thing. It is actually pretty hilarious!
Kristen Stewart is one of the worst actress i have ever seen. I have seen her in many movies and interviews and she is ALWAYS monotone and has no expression. i don’t know how she became an actress. She is terrible and should be fired.
Can’t wait for the next one!

    • Amy-jean November 9, 2010 at 7:10 pm #

      Whee! Thanks Tara!
I was hoping it would be So Bad It’s Good like all those crappy horror movies, but like I said, most of the parts just felt like watching paint dry. The baseball scene KILLED me though. Soooo cheesy!
I don’t know how a lot of people get paid to act, and if I could figure it out I would have gone to theatre school two years ago when I was accepted. I’ll have to see about Kristen Stewart. Her performance in Into The Wild can’t be any worse than in Twilight… right??

      New Moon tomorrow! Wheeeeee

    Loved your vlog :)

I remember when I saw the first Twilight movie, I went with a bunch of friends and got bored. I then started calling several characters names that weren’t very nice and my friends thought we were going to get kicked out of the theater (did I mention this was opening night).

To my memory, the second movie is better, but I also made of that movie…in the theater.

I still haven’t seen the third one because I didn’t feel like wasting my money on it.

I have seen Remember Me and Robert Pattinson was so much better in that then he was in Twilight. I’m a bit biased about Remember Me because Emilie de Ravin (Claire from Lost) is in it, and I adore her. Don’t mention Emilie around crazy Kristen/Rob fangirls though; they will start off on a rampage about how she’s not pretty, talented, and a bunch of other mean things that aren’t true. You know…because they are 12 and can’t separate fiction from reality.

I really enjoy your blog. I’ve read almost all of the books (I didn’t quite make it through the fourth one, I didn’t read Midnight Sun, or the Bree Tanner book). I wish you great luck while reading the fourth one because if you think the first book is bad…well, let’s just say this one is so much worse that I wanted to burn it. Normally, I don’t burn books, or you know, never have burned books.

Good luck! And I can’t wait to read more of your opinions.

    • Amy-jean November 10, 2010 at 1:51 pm #

I would do exactly the same if I saw a movie in theatres D: I’ll save my money for Harry Potter, which is coming out soon!

I think I have heard some Emilie rampage from the Twitards. I haven’t seen Lost, but I would put money on her being a more talented actress than Kristen.

I am happy you like my blog <3 I'll start on New Moon soon… I honestly don't know what is waiting for me past New Moon, so no spoilers. I want to be properly outraged when whatever happens happens.

i believe on the back of the new moon movie, it says and i quote ” THE MOST EPIC ROMANCE SINCE THE TITANIC”

I threw the movie and what was left of supper in my stomach across the room and asked mum why. why did she rent this.

    • Amy-jean November 13, 2010 at 1:59 pm #

WHY WHY DID SHE RENT IT

  7. ship November 13, 2010 at 1:09 pm #

and just so you know, we are both kind of artists and everyone knows the best of us go crazy. i think i’m a little more doomed than you though. unless you start doing more acting and stuff. which i really think you should instead of slaving through university and maybe getting a boring office job.

WHY AREN’T YOU WRITING BOOKS YET GOD DAMN IT. SMEYER SHOULD BE YOUR REASON TO DO SO.

    • Amy-jean November 13, 2010 at 2:09 pm #

Gurl, I’m already officially crazy. Beat you on that one.
Also I wish I could act but I haven’t really found any place to do that here. QQ
Anyway after I get my B.Linguistics I’ll get certified to teach ESL and teach English to immigrants and that’ll be nice. I don’t want to be in university. But I guess it’ll be more impressive to have a degree than to be a dropout.

UM NEXT NOVEMBER FOR NANOWRIMO I’LL WRITE SOMETHING, K? Except I suck at coming up with plots. Although judging from Smeyer’s success, plots are not necessary D:

  8. ship November 13, 2010 at 1:10 pm #

though reading twilight gives you the upper hand on wanting to jump out a top floor window more.

    • Amy-jean November 13, 2010 at 2:10 pm #

And it’s only going to get worse from here. I can smell it.
